Gerhard Isop, Inc. is a custom, residential builder located in northern Westchester County, New York. We are a family-owned business with forty years of experience in the custom residential construction business, in continuous operation since 1972. We have earned our exceptional reputation through many years of commitment to uncompromising quality and superior, old-world craftsmanship. We serve as general contractor and maintain a crew that has been with us for many years, ranging from laborers to master carpenters. Because most of our subcontractors have also been with us for many years, we are able to achieve a high degree of trust, expertise and integration in every phase of the building process. We focus on creating a strong client/builder partnership and enjoy a reputation for not only meeting, but exceeding our clients' expectations. We've had the pleasure of working with many distinguished architects and believe that a collaborative process between architect, client and builder ensures the greatest success in building homes of distinction.
J. Gerhard Isop is the second generation owner of GII. The company was started by his father Gerhard Isop, who became a master builder in Germany before emigrating to the U.S. in 1958. J. Gerhard has been president of GII since 1989. He brings to the company a strong technical background, having earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Many of GII's projects feature complex details which require an intricate blending of specialty materials, complex structural elements and finishing details, for which a technical background is vital. The company is also experienced with a great variety of green building techniques and products, as most of their projects include several components of green building design. J. Gerhard is well-versed in LEED Green Building Rating System requirements and is a long-time advocate of the use of building products which reduce the use of toxic VOC's. He has also been involved with energy conservation throughout his career.
Our projects can range in complexity from large, new custom homes (often with a tear-down included) to a bathroom or basement renovation. Most of our projects include custom millwork produced in our own workshop. We take great pride in projects that run smoothly and efficiently, in the implementation of cost-effective construction techniques whenever possible and in work that routinely exceeds industry standards.
Our long history in the custom, residential building business has given us an abiding appreciation of the beauty of natural materials, a reverence for traditional building methods and ultimately, a deep understanding of the delicate balance between form and function.
